Tank requirements

Bloodfin Tetras are schooling fish that prefer to stay in shoals of 5-7 fish, meaning you would need 10-20 gallons to house a shoal. They are very calm fish, but when in groups they nibble on each other’s fins. Once their nibbling gets out of hand you should separate the fish.

Bloodfin Tetra Tank Set Up

Tetra tanks should resemble their natural environment. Bloodfin Tetra water temperature should be from 70-80℉, with a pH ranging from 6-8.0°. Bloodfin Tetra can also support colder temperatures but it is better to keep it at 70-80℉.

Bloodfin Tetras need live plants in their aquarium tank to feel comfortable in that environment. You can also use silk artificial plants but never plastic plants because of their fins. For background and for substate, you should use a dark gravel background, it is the perfect visual complement to your Bloodfin tetra.

Diet and Feeding

Bloodfin tetra is not picky eaters, they will eat whatever they see around them. It is recommended to give them live plants such as Java Moss.

Fish flakes are also very good for Bloodfin tetra, but it is recommended to give them small quantities. They can also eat frozen or dried food such as; worms, silkworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms.

Compatibility with other fish

Bloodfin tetra are calm fish, it is recommended to put them with fish that are similar in size. Never add boisterous fish in because your Bloodfin tetra will get stressed! It is not of importance what fish you put just make sure that it is calm and around the same size as your Bloodfin tetra. You can also add shrimp, snails, and crabs.

Sexing
